Advanced Mental Training to Maximise your Success

Mental Training in Florida

Florida brain trainingWill 2014 be your best year ever?

Would you like to boost your mental performance?

You can improve your memory or develop strong focus in your sport.

Is it time for a mental tune up?

At this time of year many people just focus on the remaining weeks of the year and then Christmas.  Typically there is not much forward planning or goal setting happening for 2014 at the moment.  But if you want next year to be your most successful year, you need to start planning now!

Wouldn’t it be great to work on improving your mental performance whilst enjoying the sunshine?  In England at the moment the days seem short and the temperature has really dropped.  So at this time of year I like to head to Florida.

Mental fitness courses will be available during December and again in January.  There will be a limited few places in coaching programmes and regular training courses will be available. (training vs coaching)

This is a perfect time for new students to begin their mental training or past students to brush up on their mental skills and move onto an advanced level of training.

Executive Training

brainAre you a busy executive and feel you could achieve so much more with improved mental skills?  Would you like a better memory, with key facts easily recalled?  Or what if you could read three times faster while retaining more information?  And sometimes we just need to learn how to control our stress levels.

You will learn how to control your brainwave activity for peak mental performance.  You will be provided with your own brainwave technology to continue your brain training at home after the training.  Maybe we’ll see you at the World Memory Championships next year..,!

The popular “Mind Maximiser” training for executives will be available as a “Training only” course.

Private training is available from $2,000

Winter Training for Sporting Clays

74 Ranch stand

US Nationals is a marker for the approaching end to the main Sporting Clays season in the USA.  Does that mean that you put your gun away until next year?  No!

This is the time that you should be making some changes and improvements ready for the 2014 season!

As usual I will be at US Nationals in San Antonio at the end of October supporting students who have been working on their mental game.

Every year after Nationals I stay in the USA for a few weeks providing coaching to those determined to improve their performance the following season.  We head down to 74 Ranch for a few days of intense coaching in great surroundings.

74 Ranch

This year I am really pleased to announce a new training format.  I have teamed up with World Champion Gebben Miles to provide a unique training programme combining both technical and mental coaching.

Gebben and I have become firm friends after I first started coaching him on his mental game in 2009.  That year he became US National Champion and since then with other titles, he has also become World FITASC Champion.

What is now being offered for the first time is the opportunity for you to start your preparation for the 2014 season by attending a coaching day with both Gebben and me; working on your technical and mental game.  You will be provided with a training programme to follow over the coming months. You will also receive one month of follow up coaching from me, as we put together a strong mental routine.

Henry and Gebben

“Henry helped me develop a powerful pre-shot mental routine. He has been like a dependable friend looking after my mental game. I learnt how to control my mental states for strong focus and concentration, regardless of the pressure.”

– Gebben Miles
World FITASC Champion 2012
USA National Champion 2009

.

To ensure you receive a high level of personal coaching, only two people can attend each one-day course.  This enables personal attention from both Gebben and myself during the day.  The training will be at 74 Ranch, just south of San Antonio. The available dates immediately after Nationals are:

Monday 28th October
Tuesday 29th October
Wednesday 30th October

The cost per person for the complete training package is $1,500 per person, which includes your follow up support.  This is great value for you, as both Gebben and I typically charge more than that each per day and you’ll be getting both of us at the same time!  (My popular coaching programme, Get The Mental Edge, is still available and costs $3,800)

So this is only available to six people (two each day) and will not be repeated again this year.  So if you want the formula for perfect winter training and can be in Texas at the end of the month, contact me now.

Before you make any booking to secure this training, I will schedule a call with you to discuss the details and ensure it is suitable for you.

If you are committed to having a better season in 2014, then contact me now to secure a date before all places are booked.

Poor quality teaching limits reading skills

A recent study published in the April 23rd edition of Science shows how poor quality teaching will limit the reading potential of children.  This reinforces the importance of children having high quality teachers.

Teachers have an effect on student reading achievement,” said psychology Associate Professor Jeanette Taylor, the study’s lead author. “Better teachers provide an environment that allows children to reach their potential.

The classroom environment will also

“Dreams can help with learning” – The importance of Theta…

Research has shown that people who dream about a task perform it better on waking compared to those who do not dream about the task. (BBC News)

This reinforces the knowledge shared in our brain training courses, where the importance of theta brainwave activity in learning is discussed.  For optimal functioning, new information is received in a high-alpha state.  That is then memorised or integrated in a theta state.  The theta brainwave is an important brainwave for a healthy sleep cycle, as well as delta.

During our training courses, like the Mind Maximiser,  you learn how to access this state by increasing the amplitude of the theta brainwave at will. For anyone wishing to learn information at an accelerated rate, it is essential to be able to control the levels of high-alpha and theta brainwaves.  Some people talk about the “super-learning state”.

“Brain Training” games don’t work

At last there is the evidence that brain training games don’t boost brain power. (BBC report)

When doing radio interviews, the most common question I am asked is how good are these electronic games recently promoted to improve brain function.  My reply is always the same…doing lots of sudoku puzzles simply makes you good at doing sudoku.  There is no wider neurological benefit which can be applied to other tasks.

If you want to train your brain, you need to

Rewards work like medication for ADHD

Rewarding children for positive behaviours can have the same benefits as medication for children with ADHD.  This is according to a recent study at Nottingham University. (BBC news report)

Whilst this study is positive, it really isn’t anything new.  However it does reinforce the benefits of brain training; be that your own or helping your children.

For instance, neurofeedback training is a growing field of brain training which has been proved to have great benefit is assisting those with ADD/HD.  neurofeedback is based on providing positive reward for improved behaviour.  For example if you are trying to train someone’s brain to pay attention better, using neurofeedback you might reward low-beta brainwave activity and perhaps inhibit with theta activity.

This is typically done with  a computer game – perhaps the spaceship flies faster when you concentrate, which is a rewards.

This research from Nottingham University is interesting as it could be interpreted as encouraging reward for a wider range of behaviours.  This is perhaps something which parents know instinctively – reward for good behaviour and inhibit for poor behaviour.  But it is always nice to know that science agrees with our instinctive behaviours.  It is particularly good to know that we all have an option to train our brains beyond taking medication.

This is the message at the heart of what The Brain Training Company is providing.

Theta brainwaves essential for memory

From Reuters:

Scientists find how relaxed minds remember better.

Stronger and more lasting memories are likely to be formed when a person is relaxed and the memory-related neurons in the brain fire in sync with certain brain waves, scientists said on Wednesday….

…Synchronization in the brain is influenced by “theta waves” which are associated with relaxation, daydreaming and drowsiness, but also with learning and memory formation, the scientists explained in the study in the journal Nature.”

Accessing the theta brainwave is an integral part of the memory training I provide.  Memory techniques on their own are not enough. During both the memorisation and recall process, you need to increase theta brainwave activity and get both hemispheres balanced.

This research reinforces that The Brain Training Company is teaching cutting edge techniques.

You can only develop a really powerful memory with integrated brainwave training.  See the popular Mind Maximiser training course for more information on this subject.  Here you learn the techniques of memory and how to control your brainwave activity.

Have you tried a memory  training system or attended a course?  Did you learn how to access the theta state on demand and have this shown to you on an EEG system?

On a separate yet related matter, did you know that you need to be able to access a high-alpha state for speed reading?  So for effective learning skills, it is critical to be able to shift between the high-alpha and theta brainwave states (as well as other elements taught in the training course).

Brain Training Gold at Winter Olympics

Canada’s first gold medallist at Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics used brain training.

The first few reports are starting to come out of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, about those athletes who have utilised brain training technologies.  Various brain training systems are used by an increasing number of National teams.  However for many it is a closely guarded secret to gaining that competitive edge.

Sports Psychology has been applied for many years and is now seen is essential for any top athlete, whatever their sport.  The brain training I refer to is the Sports Neurology – a new field of peak performance giving athletes an extra edge.  This encompasses the maturing field of neurofeedback as well as more cutting edge systems as used by The Brain Training Company.

Brain Training – saves money and you live longer…

The value of brain training is becoming increasingly black and white – you save money and live longer.  This month I have written two separate comments on recent research backing up the value of quality brain training.  However here I want to promote that the two are intrinsicly linked. Brain training in a corporate environment can save companies billions of dollars / pounds each year.  High quality brain training courses for an individual can mean you have more chance of living longer…

Facts:

  • Stress related illness cost the UK £28 billion each year
  • This is a 1/4 of the UK’s sick bill
  • More than 13 million working days a year are lost in the UK because of work related stress
  • Stress is thought to contribute to coronary heart disease (CHD)
  • More than $475 billion is spent annually in the USA treating CHD
  • Meditation, or relaxing the brain, can reduce number of heart attacks and stroke by 47%

Brainwave training is a simple and cost effective way assist with these issues.
